The four blood moons of 2014-2015 have been a huge topic among Christians for a few years now. Some Christians believe that they have something to do with the End Times while others think it is simply silly to be looking at these as signs from God. I want to make clear, however, that my purpose here is not to go into the greatest depth on this issue. You can find numerous articles and books for that.

What I want to discuss is that I believe Christians should be careful about associating these blood moons with the Second Coming of Christ. Why? Scripture does speak about signs in the heavens in the End Times. These signs include the sun, moon, and stars being darkened, the stars falling from the sky, the sky being rolled up like a scroll, the moon becoming like blood, among other things.[1] Whether one takes all of these passages literally or figuratively it is clear from the contexts of these verses (see the footnote for each of these verses) that these astronomical disturbances happen either during the Great Tribulation or right before the return of Christ. There is no mention of signs in the sky before the Tribulation in Scripture.

I’m not saying that these blood moons cannot have absolutely anything to do with the End Times. God has the power to do this. All that I want Christians to understand is that the Bible does not say that there will be specifically four blood moons before the Tribulation. We need to be careful not to put so much emphasis on them. This whole issue is starting to remind of times when Christians want to predict a specific date for the Rapture. Every time so far these predictions have been wrong, with an embarrassing aftermath for Christianity. I’m open minded that God could do something, but we need to be careful because of the reasons that I mentioned above.

What do you think? Do you think God is using the blood moons as signs of the end?
