Yep, you read that right. There will be no churches in Heaven. Some may think that is blasphemous, but it is in Scripture. Let’s begin with Revelation 21:22 – “I did not see a temple in the city, because its temple is the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb.”

Some will immediately object – “but it says no temple, not church.” The Jewish Temple in Jerusalem was the focal point of worship in Old Testament times. The temple was based on the Tent of Meeting (see throughout the books of Exodus – Deuteronomy), and that was based on the Garden of Eden.

The New Testament is clear that the church took over for the temple (Ephesians 2:19-22; 1 Corinthians 3:16-17). This church is the body of believers. Our bodies are the temple of God. The New Testament does not refer to the church as a building. In the new heavens and new earth, there will be no churches in the way we think about it today. We will not go to a building or any other specific place to worship God because he will be living on earth with us in a renewed paradise.

It is time for Christians to begin believing what Scripture says about heaven, and not what tradition has been teaching us for many generations. Heaven is not an endless church service where we will be wearing white and floating around on the clouds. It is this world restored back to Eden (see link above).
